Information on St. Luke the Evangelist

Here is an excerpt from the Satucket web site, discussing what we know of St. Luke.
For the full story, please click here.

"Almost all that we know about Luke comes from the New Testament. He was a physician (Col 4:14), a companion of Paul on some of his missionary journeys (Acts 16:10ff; 20:5ff; 27-28). Material found in his Gospel and not elsewhere includes much of the account of Our Lord's birth and infancy and boyhood, some of the most moving parables, such as that of the Good Samaritan and that of the Prodigal Son, and three of the sayings of Christ on the Cross: "Father, forgive them," "Thou shalt be with me in Paradise," and "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit."

In Luke's account of the Gospel, we find an emphasis on the human love of Christ, on His compassion for sinners and for suffering and unhappy persons, for outcasts such as the Samaritans, tax collectors, lepers, shepherds (not a respected profession), and for the poor. The role of women in Christ's ministry is more emphasized in Luke than in the other Gospel writings"

MAYSVILLE EAST END INITIATIVE

Report submitted by Barbara Hudson

On May 16, 2009 three members of St. Luke’s Anglican Church participated in the first East End Initiative. Jim Moose, Andy Hudson and Barbara Hudson reported to the IGA parking lot on Forest Avenue by 10:30 a.m. and joined an estimated 100 members of other Maysville area churches in picking up trash on the streets of the east end of Maysville. With members of the Church of Christ in Christian Union the members of St. Luke’s began at the Command Center trailer in the IGA parking lot and worked west on Forest Avenue to Center Street and then south on Center and back around to Clark St. and the IGA parking lot. Christian fellowship was enjoyed by the whole team.

Kayla and Kevin Ross and Bas Mattingly participated with other groups.

The weather was beautiful when we started with a light breeze to keep us cool. As we dropped the last bags of trash rain began to fall. God’s timing is wonderful! The streets of east Maysville are clean and in Andy’s words we were “representing Jesus” while we worked.
